Critical thinking skills are a vital component of academic success. Preparing students to utilize the widest range of academic language skills through analysis, synthesis and problem solving prepare EFL/ESL students for the highest levels of academic achievement within the context of English as an L2. With a sound grounding in academic research, this workshop will provide reasoning and methodology for ESL and EFL teachers to implement such student learning objectives in their curricula, exploring some of the benefits, challenges, and researched methods for teaching and assessing critical thinking skills in the EFL/ESL classrooms, including information that can be transferred into application in any field of pedagogy.

As a follow-up activity, there will be a demonstration of an adaptable project-basedVirtual Vacation teaching unit designed to engage students at all levels of Bloom’s Taxonomy as they virtually explore cultures and regions previously unfamiliar to them while solving logistical problems associated with comprehensive planning.
