Reading is one of the most important, as well as difficult skills for each and every English learner to master it. It is not only a subject with load of printed words, but also a giant repertory of knowledge contained in them. Especially, for the freshmen who have to deal with these complicated and unfamiliar things, a helpful tool is needed. Mind map can be considered one of the most effective and feasible tools to do this task. Therefore, it is necessary to conduct a research on this issue.

The purpose of this research is to prove that using mind map as a self-study supporting tool is feasible for first year students to enhance their reading comprehension abilities. More specifically, thanks to this tool, they can learn words, as well as grasp the contents of texts much more easily and efficiently.
