Abstract

Recently, the rapid development of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) has a great impact on the way we teach and learn a foreign language (Dann, 2010) because technology is a tool that helps teachers and learners achieve certain educational goals (Reinders & White, 2011). This research aims at investigating the effectiveness of implementing video-based projects to help foster the students’ English speaking ability at upper-intermediate level at University of Engineering and Technology (UET), a university member of Vietnam National University, Hanoi. It took a 15-week semester to conduct this research with two groups of 35 fast-track students majoring in engineering and technology. The findings reveal that students show willingness and excitement to carry out their assigned video-projects. Also, by the end of the semester, all the students had improved their speaking confidence in front of the whole class. Overall, as expected, the students made strong progress throughout their 15-week course in terms of speaking and presenting skill.
