Abstract

Together with the application of hi-tech devices like smartphones in teaching and learning languages, the study aims at: (1)improving students’ responsiveness in interpreting (2) raising students’ awareness toward their strengths/weaknesses when interpreting in terms of pronunciation, word choice or grammatical structures (3) strengthening students’ collaborative and cooperative learning. To conduct this action research, the teacher instructs students to use their smartphones to record their interpretation for some exercises in Interpreting class. The students are English-majored in their third year at Hanoi University of Industry. The recording activities are conducted groups and in several procedures. Initial findings include better confidence, better responsiveness, growing awareness of pronunciation and more contribution to groupwork. This leads to recommendation of applying recording with smartphones in interpreting classes in particular and speaking skills in general.
