Abstract

One of the common problems facing EFL teachers in teaching writing is how to engage students in their writing lessons and help them autonomously communicate their ideas through writing. In this workshop, the participants will experience a number of tools and apps for motivating EFL students to write creatively such as Storybird, Bookcreator, Infographics and Telescopic Text, which are suitable for students of different levels to develop their writing from simple forms to complicated ones. Besides, they are also provided with useful tools for assessing their students’ writing namely Grammarly and English Profile. Additionally, the presenters also demonstrate how to help students share their work and assess their peers’ writing through the app called Padlet. Furthermore, the participants will have opportunity to practise using the tools and apps they learn in this workshop in designing writing activities for a specific task in a new English textbook, which is currently used at many secondary schools in Vietnam. Finally, there will be a small discussion regarding other possibilities to apply the mentioned tools and apps in teaching writing skills and other skills.
