The question “is there an optimum class size for teaching?” has been widely discussed, as teachers and educators believe the fewer students they have, the more engaged those students will be in their lessons. However, reducing class size is a costly reform and almost impossible to do in the ASEAN context of teaching English. For K12 teachers of English, working with a group of 40 to 50 students is what they do every day. Instead of complaining about the number of learners and the fixed arrangement of tables and chairs, K12 teachers can apply some practical techniques to keep their students involved and maintain their attention during their lessons. In this presentation, the participants will get some hands-on guidelines about how to use learning stations and maximize several group work activities to make students participate with high motivation in a big class. The participants will also have an opportunity to reflect and adapt those techniques in their own teaching.
