Abstract


Reading is one of the four important skills in English. Extensive reading allows learners to explore the content and further improve understanding of the English language used in different contexts. This paper focuses on analyzing the impact of extensive reading on the 5th graders at Newstar English center. Most reading texts are selected from the book Family and friends 5, which has been used by 5th graders at Newstar English center. In order to evaluate the progress of students in English through extensive reading, the author uses questionnaires, interviews, and checklists for this study. The questionnaire deal with students' attitudes towards the extensive reading. The interview is applied for investigating the difficulties that students face in extensive reading. The checklist provides the knowledge of different reading content to check how well students improve through extensive reading. The process of assessing extensive reading is also based on the pre-test and post-test results. The results of the studies lead to the conclusion and implication for extensive reading enforcement.
