Community Service Learning (CSL) has so far been a pedagogy at universities that aims to bring school to community as well as to give students opportunities to practice what they learn at schools for the benefit of the community, and at the same time, develop their expertise and understanding of the community for their future career. This study aims to investigate the teachers’ perceptions and practice of community service learning at some upper secondary schools in Thua Thien Hue, Vietnam. The participants included 61 EFL teachers at some upper secondary schools of both rural and urban areas in Thua Thien Hue. A questionnaire and follow-up interviews were used to explore teachers’ perceptions and their practice of CSL. The findings show that the teachers realize the benefits of CSL and strongly support the integration of CSL in their teaching. However, there is a remarkable difference in perceptions and practice of CSL between teachers who have heard about CSL or joined a CSL activity and teachers who have never heard about CSL. Another result is that more teachers in city center schools have heard about and/or had chance to join CSL, than teachers in rural areas. The findings of both questionnaires and interviews also put forward many issues in CSL, which serve as implications for some suggestions on developing, experimenting, and implementing CSL in EFL secondary education contexts.
