Abstract

Collaboration is a way of interaction and personal attitude where individuals are responsible for their actions, learnings, abilities and contributions of their peers as well. According to the latest official annoucement about new teaching methodologies, collaboration is one of six essential skills in acquiring second language. The research about the collaboration in Skype lessons is conducted by the mixed methodology (quantitative and qualitative method approach). Data are collected through analyzing activities in Skype lessons, receiving responses from questionnaire and interviewing teachers who apply Skype in teaching methods. Data will be analyzed to see how technology, especially Skype, can support collaboration and some obstacles that teacher might encounter in Skype class. The levels of Collaboration between students and teacher, students and students in Skype class are also demonstrated, which points out what kinds of activities might be applied effectively to support collaborating skills for students. Additionally, thanks to Skype and other computer technologies, the objectives of the lesson are achieved with better results and more creative methods. The paper concludes with a discussion about the implications of these issues with respect to achievement of undergraduate students in English and some potential remedies to apply technology in second language acquisition in Vietnam.
