Abstract

The Philippines has become one of the primary destinations for ESL learners from around the world. This facilitated the need for Grammar and Pronunciation training for ESL teachers to support their continuing professional development.

This research, with the title Gains and Successes of the TTT (Teach-Test-Teach) Approach for Grammar and Pronunciation Enhancement and Mastery Training for Philippine ESL teachers, presents a Descriptive Case Study that compared results of tests given to teachers in Grammar and Pronunciation topics commonly present in ESL curriculum in the Philippines. The comparison indicated (1.) an increase in scores in Grammar and Pronunciation rules; (2.) an improvement in the correct usage of grammatical structures and pronunciation rules in production activities, and ; (3.) an improvement in monitoring and management skills in grammar and pronunciation errors of ESL learners based on actual ESL learners’ outputs given to teachers for error identification and management.

Overall, the teachers’ confidence in using Grammar and Pronunciation rules, in monitoring and in managing errors of their students have improved as shown on their second tests and an interview that was conducted. To further establish gains and successes, class observations and examination of corrected tasks of students by the teachers involved in the study will be facilitated in the future.
