Abstract

Primary students are known for being playful and active with a short span of attention. As a result, there is a need to come up with initiatives to keep them engaged. My poster presentation will address some tested-and-tried activities in the classroom which work well with my students. Those initiatives derive from the theory of multiple intelligences and the application of technology. Specifically, I will present how to use games to check students' background knowledge and understanding as well as to connect with others. I will also demonstrate the use of mind maps in develop their high order thinking skills in all skills, especially in writing such as planning and reviewing their peers’ work. Finally, hands-on experience such as projects and stem activities, authentic tasks and a real-world connection such as inviting a real guest speaker to the class or taking a field trip, are my suggestions to make lessons more fun and engaging.
